Questioni transculturali nel mondo accademico e professionale
Nella prima parte di questa presentazione l’autore cercherà di definire ed esplorare le questioni relative al counseling transculturale da un punto di vista storico, accademico e professionale. Presenterà un resoconto dello sviluppo del counseling transculturale negli ultimi 50 anni, soprattutto considerando le vaste diaspore che hanno delineato gli sconvolgimenti sociali migratori in Europa e altrove.
Nella seconda parte della presentazione l’autore esplorerà l’esperimento di due università per progettare, organizzare e realizzare un corso di counseling transculturale tenuto da docenti e studenti provenienti da diverse situazioni etniche e accademiche. Analizzerà le somiglianze e le differenze incontrate con particolare attenzione alle questioni etiche che sono state create.
Biografia
Dr. Dione Mifsud is the Immediate Past President of the International Association for Counselling (IAC). He was President from 2012 to 2019. He is also the founder and past Head of the Department of Counselling at the University of Malta from 2012 to 2021. Dione is also a former Head of the Department of Psychology at the same university, a former Head of the University of Malta Counselling Unit, and past President of the Malta Association for the Counselling Profession (MACP). He designed and coordinated the first Masters in Counselling programme offered by the University of Malta. He also co-designed and coordinated an international Masters programme in Transcultural Counselling with the University of Maryland at College Park (USA) and as a collaborative degree with the University of the Cumberlands (USA). He also designed a Post graduate Certifi cate in Counselling Supervision and co-designed a Post Graduate Certifi cate in Adlerian Counselling. His research interests include counselling practice, counselling ethics, counselling supervision and transcultural counselling. Dione has served as the Harassment and Bullying Advisor of the University of Malta since 2014. During his tenure as President of IAC, Dione introduced the concept of Regional Representation in the IAC Executive Council, making sure that the council members represented the whole world. He also introduced international roundtables including Ethics, Projects, Practitioners, Research, Peace and Social Justice and Indigenous Roundtables, and remains directly involved in eff orts to advance counselling through involvement on the Executive Council as the Immediate Past President and Chair of the World Regions Committee.
